Understand what each accessory adds, check the fit and choose the pieces that work for your table. A practical guide to racks, pushers, dice trays and coasters.

A mat and a tile set give your mahjong table its character. The next additions are more personal: a rack that suits your tiles, a place for the dice, or somewhere convenient to set a drink.
You can build that setup a little at a time. Start with the parts of your current game that feel awkward, then choose accessories that earn their place. Here is how to think through racks, pushers, dice trays and coasters before adding anything to your table.
Begin with the equipment you already use
Set out your usual tiles, racks, mat and any reference cards. Sit in each chair and picture a hand in progress. Perhaps one rack feels crowded, the dice keep disappearing beside a case, or everyone is balancing a glass at the table's edge.
Those observations give you a useful shopping list. If your group already has comfortable racks, you can keep them. If a side table solves the drinks question, you may only need coasters there. A coordinated table can grow from pieces you already enjoy.
Racks and pushers have different jobs
A rack supports your tiles upright while you arrange your hand. A pusher helps move a built wall of tiles into position. They work together, but it helps to understand both when comparing a set.
Our Sage Green Mahjong Rack & Pusher Set includes four clear acrylic racks with scalloped magnetic pusher arms, one for each player. The sage accent is printed onto the acrylic, leaving the clear details visible.
Each rack measures approximately 20.08 × 2.36 × 0.98 inches. The listing specifies room for up to 19 tiles measuring 1.02 inches wide. That tile-width detail matters: a stated capacity is useful only when you know the size of the tiles being counted.
The set includes racks and pushers. Mats and tiles are separate purchases, so check what your group already has before putting together a complete kit.
Check the fit on the whole table
Before choosing a rack, measure your tile width and compare it with the listing. If your tiles are wider than the example given, ask about capacity using your actual measurements.
Next, mark out the rack's length and depth on your tabletop. Try all four positions, with your mat centered and the corners supported. Leave room for hands, walls, discards and any cards your version uses. A rack can accommodate your tiles and still feel awkward on a crowded table.
Remember the space beyond the mat. Racks may sit on the tabletop outside its edges, provided the complete arrangement works comfortably. Our mahjong table-size guide walks through the checks for square, round and rectangular tables.
A dice tray is an optional finishing touch
A small tray gives the dice a familiar place to return to. You might use it for rolling or simply rest the dice there between uses, depending on how your group likes to play. You can also continue using the playing surface if that works well for you.
The Sage Green Scalloped Ceramic Mahjong Dice Tray is a compact ceramic dish with a printed color finish and a decorative gold-tone rim. It measures approximately 4.5 × 4.5 × 0.8 inches.
Try a similarly sized dish in your planned position before ordering. It should be easy to reach without occupying the space needed for the game. Keep it away from an edge where a moving rack or sleeve could knock it.
One tray is included. Dice are not included, so keep the pair from your existing equipment together with the tray when preparing for game night.
Give drinks a comfortable home
Once four players settle in, an apparently spacious table can become busy. Coasters are easiest to use when you decide where the drinks will go before the game starts.
A nearby side table is a simple solution. If glasses sit on the main tabletop, leave a generous margin outside the playing area and check that nobody needs to reach across a drink to move tiles.
Our Sage Green Ceramic Coasters with Holder come as six coasters and one black metal holder. Each coaster is approximately 4.1 inches across, with a printed ceramic top and cork backing. Four can serve the players, with two available at your refreshment station.
When the evening ends, returning them to the holder makes it easier to find the set next time.
Choose one connection between the pieces
You do not need every object to be an exact color match. Repeating one shade or choosing a consistent level of detail is often enough.
For the quiet green look pictured here, start with SOFT SAGE. Its pale sage field and deeper moss-green border give the clear acrylic racks and small ceramic pieces room to stand out. It belongs to The Quiet Palette, a collection of softly colored mats with simple borders.
You can make the same decision around tiles you already own. Choose a color you enjoy in the set, then keep the surrounding accessories simple. Check the combination in your usual room lighting; screen images are a starting point.
Keep the care routine straightforward
Use the care instructions for each material. Wipe the acrylic racks gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Clean the ceramic tray gently with water or a soft, damp cloth, taking care around its decorative rim. Wipe the coasters with a damp cloth.
Let cleaned pieces dry before putting them away, and give the ceramic items somewhere secure between games. Keeping everything together also makes hosting at a friend's house easier.
Your before-you-order checklist
- Compare the rack dimensions with your actual tiles and tabletop.
- Check the quantity in each listing, including pushers, holders and any separately sold items.
- Choose a reachable position for the tray and a comfortable place for drinks.
- Pick accessories that add something useful to the equipment you already own.
- If you are planning around a new purchase, read the current production and delivery information.
